Holiday Shopping Without the Backache

It’s never too early to start your holiday shopping especially with Black Friday deals coming soon. However, behind the thrill of shopping for your friends and loved ones lingers back pain. Here’s you can avoid back pain and enjoy shopping:

  • Pack and Carry Strategically: It’s very common to load up all of your bags onto your arms to avoid making multiple trips to your car, but carrying all that weight can create uneven strain on your spine and shoulders. You should try to distribute the weight evenly on both sides of your body or use a backpack to balance the load.
  • Mind Your Posture in Line: Standing in long lines can be very hard on your back. People tend to shift their weight onto one leg or hunch over their phone which puts pressure on the lower spine. You should try to keep your shoulders relaxed and distribute weight evenly on both of your feet.
  • Avoid “Trunk Twists” When Loading Up your Car: One of the most common causes of sudden back pain is improper lifting especially when you’re loading heavy shopping bags into your car. Instead of bending at the waist, it’s important that you lift with your legs and not your back.
