Causes of Spinal Stenosis

Spinal stenosis is a fairly common spine condition. Spinal stenosis is a condition characterized by the narrowing of the spaces within your spine which can put pressure on the spine that leads to pain, numbness, or weakness. Spinal stenosis can have various causes such as these:

  • Herniated Discs: When a spinal disc pushes through a crack in the tougher exterior, it can press on the spinal canal and cause stenosis.
  • Trauma: Injuries to the spine can lead to dislocations and fractures which can lead to stenosis.
  • Bone Spurs: Extra bone growth can occur in response to the spine degenerating which can narrow the spinal canal and compress the nerves causing stenosis.
