Deciding between a cervical fusion and a disc replacement depends on a number of factors including the patient’s age, lifestyle, and overall health, their bone density, the source of the pain, the extent of the damage, and other risk factors. This patient previously had a cervical fusion and following an accident, now has another disc herniation in need of treatment. As an eligible patient under 40, we chose disc replacement over performing a second fusion.
