Disc Replacement to Preserve Motion

  • Post category:Medical

Patients understand that disc replacement is a great way to preserve motion compared to a spinal fusion, but they often ask what will happen 5, 10, 15 years down the road. Will these artificial discs hold up? Here’s a great example that showcases the long-term success of disc replacement surgery.

In 2010, I performed a disc replacement at C4-5 C5-6. 15 years later, this patient is now 65 and having trouble with the discs above and below, BUT the existing implants are still holding strong.

Watch how the implants work as the patient flexes their neck up and down in these scans from both 2010 and 2025.
