Give Your Back Some Love For Valentine’s Day

February is a month of love with Valentine’s Day, the weather slowly getting warmer, and spending time with your family. Why not also give some love to your back this February? Here are some things that you can incorporate into your routine every week of February:

  • Move Your Spine Every Morning: Your spine stiffens throughout the night as you sleep so it’s important to move your spine as soon as you wake up in the morning. Stretching your spine in the morning can help to increase circulation and reduce any tightness.
  • Add Strengthening Movements and Do Them Twice a Week: A resilient back isn’t just flexible, but strong and supported by the muscles surrounding it. There are a lot of different exercises to choose from that will work on these muscles such as glute bridges and hip hinges.
  • Break Up your Periods of Sitting: If you’re sitting for long periods of time, you should try to get up and move every 30 minutes or so to improve circulation and reduce stiffness along with pain.
  • Practice Better Back Mechanics: Most back pain is caused by the poor mechanics of everyday tasks. As you’re completing your daily tasks, be intentional about how you bend your back and how you lift things throughout the day to avoid back pain.
