How dehydration affects your spine

It’s important that you drink water every day to keep your body hydrated. Keeping your spine hydrated is very important because there can be a multitude of problems if your spine becomes dehydrated:

  • Immobility: Water allows your back to have more flexibility and movement because water is delivering nutrients to your spine. If you’re not drinking enough water, your spine will be less flexible and it will make it harder for you to move.
  • Back pain: Your spine relies on water to function and bring it nutrients so if your spine is not receiving water, it could lead to back pain.
  • Herniated discs: Your spinal discs bulge and expand when they’re not receiving enough water which leads to them scraping against each other and causing pain.
