How Spring Allergies Can Affect Your Spine

While spring comes with beautiful blooming flowers, those flowers also bring allergies. Spring allergies can not only make your eyes water, make your nose stuffy, but can also affect your spine.

When your allergies flare up, your immune system releases chemicals like histamine to fight the allergies. While this is done to protect you, it also increases inflammation throughout your body including your spine. This inflammation can enhance pre-existing back pain.

The best thing you can do to help your spine is to reduce your exposure to allergens. Try to keep your windows closed on high-pollen days and use an air purifier to filter out allergens. It also helps to shower and change your clothes after spending some time outside to remove pollen from your hair and skin.
