The spine is one of the most important parts of the body and there are lots of myths surrounding it. Here’s a few of them:
- A herniated disc can be pushed back into place through manipulation: This is false. A herniated disc cannot be pushed back into place through manipulation. The most common treatments for herniated discs are pain management and physical therapy.
- Back pain is hereditary: There is no genetic predisposition for common back pain; however, the way you live your life will affect back pain such as lack of exercise and poor posture.
- Good posture means sitting up straight: When people hear “good posture” they think that means sitting up straight. This isn’t always true. It’s more important to maintain a neutral spine position than sitting up straight all the time.
