(Part 1/2) When I first started in spine surgery, having sacroiliac (SI) joint instability wasn’t accepted as a potential condition. But times have changed, and today we’re performing two sacroiliac joint fusions on patients with long spinal fusions.

While a lumbar fusion can provide an extensive amount of pain relief, it’s not unusual for a patient to develop inflammation of the SI joints years down the road.
