Poor posture can be especially problematic for people predisposed to back pain. As more people are leaving the comforts of their couch to return to the office it’s important to remember to take care of your spine and neck. Sitting long stretches of time can cause posture-related pain. When you slouch, your ligaments and muscles strain in order to remain balanced. Eventually muscle fatigue follows, resulting in back pain. Make the effort to sit with good posture, with your shoulders back and your spine straight, until it becomes a habit, and break apart long periods of rest by periodically stretching, standing, or walking around your office. If your office chair lacks proper lumbar support consider bringing a cushion or even a rolled towel and placing it between your lower back and the chair. If you are experiencing back or neck pain we have expanded our office to utilize Telemedicine consultations to better assist our patients.
