March Madness for Your Spine: Avoiding Injuries

March is here and with it comes the excitement for March Madness! Whether you’re playing basketball yourself or watching the game, it’s important to prioritize your spine. Here’s how you can protect your spine this season:

  • Warm Up Before Playing: Warming up properly is the key to protecting your spine and body. You should spend at least 10-15 minutes doing some stretches and cardio to get your body ready to play and reduce the risk for injuries.
  • Stretch It Out Post-Game: It’s also important to stretch after you play a game. Stretching can help to release built-up tension in your muscles and promote better recovery.
  • Understand the Warning Signs of an Injury: Sometimes even with all the proper precautions taken to prevent injuries, they can happen. It’s important to recognize the signs of a potential spine injury such as: pain, persistent back pain, and weakness.
