Halloween is filled with spooky tales of ghosts, zombies, and monsters. One of the scariest things though is back pain. Unfortunately, there are many myths out there that may be haunting your daily tasks.
- Myth 1: Complete Rest is the Best Cure for Back Pain- When your back pain starts to flare up, your first instinct may be to rest all day. While a short period of rest can help acute pain, extended inactivity causes your muscles to weaken and stiffen. This makes your back more susceptible to future injury.
- Myth 2: Back Pain is a Normal Part of Getting Older- It’s easy to write off back pain as a consequence of getting older, but this belief can be dangerous. While the risk for certain spinal diseases can increase with age, back pain is not a guaranteed part of the process. Back pain is typically caused by mechanical issues such as how you move, lift, and sit.
- Myth 3: A Firm Mattress is Always Better- Many people believe the harder the mattress, the better the support. However, a mattress that is too firm can create pressure points on your shoulders and hips leading to spine misalignment.
