Mel Uses Bolt Cutters on 6mm Cobalt Chromium Spinal Rods

#FlashbackFriday to last week when Mel completely CRUSHED IT in the OR. You don’t often see women in orthopaedic surgery using bolt cutters but here Mel is, cutting 6.0mm cobalt chromium spinal rods!

Bolt cutters are typically used in spine surgery to cut and remove spinal rods that offer stabilization, especially in complex fractures or for correcting deformities. You know how I always say measure twice, cut once? Rods have to be cut precisely to fit the patient. It takes technique, precision, and strength.

Cobalt chromium is an incredibly hard, rigid rod akin to ultra-strength steel that bends less than alternatives, like titanium, and has a high yield force.

It’s an incredible ortho milestone for Mel so double tap to show her some love! #BigTime
