Because we’re treating three consecutive levels of the cervical spine, I’m performing a hybrid spine surgery: a 2-level disc replacement + fusion. This’ll help preserve as much natural motion and flexibility as possible.
The reason for fusion at the third level is arthritis in the joints. This is a contraindication for disc replacement. Or in layman’s terms: a medical reason to avoid disc replacement at that level.
