I started my spine surgeon journey (way) back in the 1980s, so I’ve had the unique privilege of using both “old fashioned” techniques as well as new technology such as navigated spine surgery and endoscopic spine surgery.
As one of the first spine surgeons to use pedicle screws in a patient in North America, I understand just how difficult spine surgery was for patients before this new technology was introduced.
So, what was spine surgery like 40 years ago? Here’s my experience.
