As much as the fall season can be fun, it can bring new challenges for our bodies especially for our spines. The combination of cooler weather and different physical activities can lead to stiffness and discomfort. With that being said, here are some self-care tips for a healthy spine this fall:
- Stay Hydrated, Even When It’s Cool: People often only drink water because it is hot outside, but you need to be drinking water all the time regardless of the weather. The discs between your vertebrae are made of mostly water and property hydration helps these discs to function properly.
- Embrace Relaxation Techniques: Stress often has a physical impact on your body such as creating tension in your muscles. Engaging in relaxing things such as taking a warm bath with some candles or foam rolling can really help to relieve that stress and tension.
- Engage in Gentle Stretching: Before starting your day, doing some gentle stretching can help to prepare your body for the day and reduce your risk of injury.
