Mark Bell’s Sugar Diet

Trends come and go but the latest diet trend to hit the strength community is professional powerlifter and fitness influencer, Mark Bell’s Sugar Diet.

For those who haven’t heard, the Sugar Diet is focused on very high carbs such as fruit, fruit juice, honey, and simple sugars. Less fat, less protein, less starch, fewer calories. According to Bell, the goal is to become insulin sensitive to drop fat but retain muscle and keep energy levels elevated.

I’m sure my dentist has strong opinions about a sugar-centric diet but what does it mean in terms of strength training? Does this really work? I had to ask Coach Ben about his take on the Sugar Diet and its potential ramifications in both the short term and long term.
